About the Journal

The Journal of Open Research in Education (JORE) is a peer-reviewed academic journal dedicated to the critical discussion and advancement of Open Research in the field of education. The journal provides an international forum, with a particular focus on the European context, for scholarly contributions addressing theoretical, methodological, epistemological, and infrastructural aspects of openness in educational research.

JORE was established in 2026 as part of the network activities of Network 12 “Open Research in Education” within the European Educational Research Association (EERA). The journal builds on the network’s commitment to fostering open, transparent, and reflexive research practices in educational science and related fields.

Aims and Scope

The journal aims to create a space for interdisciplinary and critical discourse on Open Research in Education. It welcomes contributions that address, among others:

  • open research practices such as open access, open data, open methodologies, and open educational resources (OER);

  • epistemological and theoretical perspectives on openness and knowledge production in educational science;

  • questions of organisation, infrastructure, and governance of data, information, and knowledge, including databases, catalogues, metadata, and indexing systems at the intersection of educational science and information science.

JORE publishes original research articles, conceptual and theoretical contributions, methodological reflections, and position papers. All submissions undergo a peer-review process to ensure academic quality and relevance.

Open Access Policy

The Journal of Open Research in Education is an open access journal. All articles are published online and are freely accessible immediately upon publication, without embargo periods. The journal does not charge readers for access to its content.

Authors retain the copyright of their work. Articles are published under a Creative Commons licence (to be specified, e.g. CC BY), which permits use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited.
