This article examines the representation of Muslim individuals in Protestant religious education textbooks for grades 7 and 8 from a class-critical perspective. It focuses on the question of which religious and social interpretive patterns are conveyed in text and image, and how these are framed didactically. The analysis combines textbook-didactic and socio-critical approaches by linking Karlo Meyer’s concept of the “double individual reference” with the classism theory of Markus Gamper and Annett Kupfer. The article also offers an intersectional reflection with regard to interreligious religious didactics and, in connection with textbook research, contributes to a political religious education learning to critically reflect on majority-society stereotypes.
