Interreligious study components in religious education teacher training as a research task. An unresolved issue of professionalization

Abstract

Since 2024, the German Research Foundation (DFG) research network “Teaching about Others in Christianity and Islam – Theological Didactic Research Impulses for the Further Development of Interreligious Studies in Higher Education” has investigated how the current interreligious studies in religious education teacher training affect the professionalization requirements for religious education in schools and how quality can be improved. This article introduces the special issue in which the various working groups document the status of their research and highlight further research needs.
