Religious education as a class reunion? Classism Critique as a Task for Inclusive Religious Education
Authors
- Vera Uppenkamp Author
This article examines classism as a social structure and a form of discrimination relevant to religious education. Examples are used to illustrate how classist educational disadvantage is also evident in religious education. In addition, the article outlines how criticism of classism can be developed within the framework of inclusive religious education and how a classism-critical understanding of education can contribute to this. Finally, two tasks for classism-critical religious education are formulated: for greater epistemic justice, religious education must be interpreted in terms of liberation theology, and to sharpen the political profile of many inclusive approaches to religious education, the category of difference known as class must be addressed intersectionally.
